The kettle hissed around midnight Pipes knocked somewhere through the wall I watched the laundry turn in circles In the window of the block across the hall You stood there leaning on the frame One hand hidden in your sleeve The room behind you looked abandoned Like a place nobody planned to leave That window where I saw you Stayed with me for far too long A quiet scene with nothing in it Still somehow it felt so wrong That window where I saw you Half-lit room and tired eyes I never heard your voice once speaking Still I answer it sometimes The grocer closed at eight each evening Chairs went upside down in rows Someone argued near the stairwell Then the building swallowed all the noise You smoked without a trace of drama No restless pose, no practiced stare Just standing there in old blue trousers Like you forgot the cold was there That window where I saw you Turned familiar night by night Not desire and not obsession Just a habit tied too tight That window where I saw you Caught between the dark and dawn Made every room I entered after Feel slightly vacant when you’d gone Months collapsed into each other Same wet coats and crowded trains I kept looking up by reflex Every time I passed that lane Then one winter you stopped appearing Curtains shut for weeks at least A family moved in by December With louder voices, brighter sheets Maybe I created meaning From a face I barely knew Maybe empty hours grow larger When there’s nothing left to do Still some evenings I remember How the silence seemed to move Two strangers framed in separate windows Trying not to think too much That window where I saw you Still returns without a sound Not as heartbreak, not as longing More like something half-way found That window where I saw you Small and distant in the glass Reminds me how entire years can form Around a moment that just passed "That window where I saw you" by post-punk'er from Isolated Tracks II , released 1 May 2026 DarkGoth Alternative music / post-punk'er
