May I just add in defence (but not absolution) of Matt Murdock’s powers not being a complete fix: he can only see everything because all of his other senses are dialled up to 100, and it’s in a sense a form of echolocation. What that means is that he can get a sensory overload very quickly. And because it’s just essentially echolocation, he only ever sees the outline of things and not actually fully see them. Also I believe that when Matt ‘sees things written on paper’ he’s only ‘seeing’ the outline of the written or printed words because his sense of touch is so sensitive due to his powers that he can tell the extremely subtle difference in texture. So without touching it, like Toph he can tell it’s a piece of paper, but he can’t tell what’s /on/ the piece of paper. He still can’t traditionally read, or see people’s faces in detail, and he sometimes gets too much of a sensory overload and can’t ‘see’ like when his rogues have bombs or flashbangs that make a loud noise, overloading his hearing and ‘blinding’ him. If he can’t hear he can’t ‘see’ essentially. Please correct me if anything I said is wrong because I don’t want to come across as if I know everything to be perfect fact!

also glasses aren't cheap. if I loose my current pair I'll have to make an appointment with an optometrist, measure the degrees my eyes need to actually see, and then spend 2 months worth of my salary to get new ones, wait almost a week and then ONLY then do I get to see farther than a hands width from my nose. I can't drive, read, work, clean or cook without them. what the fuck am I gonna do if I loose my glasses or break them? Currently, I'm budgeting so I can get a spare pair just in case but it's not something I can just go to a store around the corner and get new glasses on the same day.

You should read witch hat atelier. It has 6 major characters with physical disabilities who use various disability aids that help them but dont just magic away the disabilities. I’ll list them in the replies if you’re curious. The series also has characters with mental disabilities, but i considered that not relevant to go into detail on since its mainly about physical disability aids.

it's also important to note (for op's comment) that disabled people are not a monolith and saying "I've heard a disabled person say" doesn't always mean that is the common sentiment, in this case it is but it is a nuanced subject anyway

also def prefer when an aid either fantastical or not has the same friction as irl, like mobility aids, false legs or arms, etc can be helpful but theyre heavy, uncomfortable, cant move exactly like a limb most the time, might take up extra space, and dont necessarily undo the pain or fatigue of a condition just make it manageable, im fine with fancy fantasy mobility aids but they should have at least Some of those features, like I love my rollator but it cant fit in narrow spaces, it doesnt do great on all terrains, and sometimes I stub my toe on the frame lol, and even with it im still disabled it just helps a ton

the punch dimension thing isnt canon btw. the punch dimension is real, but cyclops powers are just kinetic energy rays that he shoots from his eyes (lasers is a perfectly okay thing to say here i think, barely anyone uses the word correctly anyways) he absorbs energy around him, like from the sun, and then shoots the kinetic energy lasers. if he shoots too much without recharging he can run out

I like the glasses mention. When I play soccer, it’s usually raining so I take them off to play. I have very bad eyesight, but usually I get by by tracking colours. But yesterday I was goalie and could NOT see what was going on at the other end of the pitch so I had to keep asking my friends what was going on so I could keep track of the game.

I use a cane (like a walking stick one) and honestly one of the biggest consequences I face is only having one hand free. its such a minor detail that I never really considered, but being a woman and therefore not having pockets means im trying to balance everything in one hand. getting takeout is a nightmare, ive got my phone, keys, drink, and bag of food balancing in one hand and the cane in the other and then I get to my car and I have to balance my cane so it doesnt fall over so I can untangle my keys and open the door to get in. its a great mobility device but theres always some kind of negative to using them

A lesser-known marvel character that does disability well (in my opinion) is Fitz from agents of shield, I feel like they navigate the social implications of disability well especially. How people treat you after, navigating becoming disabled and not being able to do what you used to. So much love in my heart for him.
