@kathryndenny: If you watch one video today, please let it be this! ❤️🩹 Jaska’s speech is at the end and deserves to be heard. The realities of families like ours, and all disabled Australians hangs in the balance of @Mark Butler MP proposed funding cuts to NDIS. Speak up for those who can not speak for themselves, and protect rights of our most vulnerable. I will not be remembered as someone who stayed silent - will you? #autism #nonspeaking #ndis #disabilityawareness
“being unable to speak isn’t the same as having nothing to say” so incredibly powerful 😭

As a teacher with a Level 3 autistic student in my mainstream class you hit the nail on the head. I don’t have the training as a teacher in my first year and yet he is being declined again and again from being in an environment that will better support him!!

As a paediatric speech pathologist, the amount of families coming to me with concerns for their children breaks my heart. “We can’t afford this if our funding is taken away” - how scary knowing you couldn’t continue getting your child the help they so desperately need to live their lives to the fullest. You really wouldn’t think this government could possibly get any worse!

as a mum of 2 asd kiddies 1 who could live without the ndis support but 1 that will need substantial support for the rest of his life. I have cried in private 100s of time when people tell me he will get better as not only does it minimise his struggles but also mine as his mum. we live in semi rural Victoria and struggle to get any sort of therapy without a closed waiting list or a minimum of a 12 month wait list, or a support worker that is available and capable of supporting my son. an asd diagnosis does not show our day to day struggles, it does not show the fact that he is funded by the education department to have in school support but the funding is used elsewhere and can not be a school for more than a few hours a week, or the fact that school fight me every step of the way when all I want is inclusion. NDIS is a massive support but it still doesnt mean we are completely supported. take it away and we are left with nothing. my son is 10 ASD level 2, ADHD, OCD, crippling anxiety and Tourettes syndrome, these are his diagnoses but this does not give anyone any insight to his life, to his limitations and what limitations this gives our whole family. but NDIS can tell me having autism is not enough to warrant support, and this is being decided but people with no lived knowledge, no medical experience? Ours and many others are frightened for what the future holds. there are so many areas the NDIS could be cutting costs, big companies cashing in on the scheme, therapists that can charge whatever they like for self-managed participant. why do they have to start with the people that are already struggling with an unknown future?

As an AuDHD adult, these autistic children will grow up to be autistic adults. I didn’t have access to support as a child (as a woman that’s not uncommon) and it’s had severe impacts. Early intervention in particular matters so much.

As a teacher with many autistic students in my class, I have no additional training. I ask to go to professional development, but there’s no funding. We must pay for it ourselves. I do because I love my students and I want to help them in every which way I can. Thank you for being a voice for disability 🤍
