@thenurseliz: Yes, I’m a mother… but Mother’s Day isn’t really about me anymore. It’s for the mamas still in the trenches. The ones raising little kids or caring for special needs children. The women running on caffeine, crumbs, and interrupted sleep. The moms eating cold dinners at 10 PM, hiding in the bathroom for 90 seconds of peace, and giving every ounce of themselves to everyone else. Meanwhile, I’m over here living the NANA life. Today, I spent two sweet hours with my grandsons, soaked up the cuddles, then took them home and came back to a quiet house. I’ll eat dinner whenever I want, sleep all night, and wake up when I feel like it tomorrow. That’s why tomorrow, I honor my daughter. She’s the one in the thick of it. My gift to her is simple: I’ll take the boys so she can breathe for a minute. So she can sit down at a restaurant, eat a hot meal, chew at a normal pace, and remember she’s a human being too. Honestly, watching her blossom into a mother has become one of the greatest gifts of my life. And maybe this is an unpopular opinion, but I don’t understand the “they need to come see ME” mentality on Mother’s Day. These young moms are barely keeping their heads above water some days. They don’t need another obligation, another event, another thing to organize or buy for. They need grace. They need support. They need rest. Remember that season? You probably didn’t need one more gift or gathering either. You needed a breather.
