I watched 2 mourning doves build their nest outside my window in a pine tree, all the while thinking they were doing a pretty poor job of it! They laid the eggs, the eggs hatched & they were being fed and cared for….then I noticed the bottom of the nest falling out. Next thing I knew the babies were in the grass below. I put a paper towel inside a bowl and gathered them up. Then I remembered I had a decorative nest so I put the babies into the nest right next to the water bowl where the adult doves always came. I was hoping she wouldn’t abandon them because I had touched them. Wouldn’t you know it? She returned to them in the fake nest and they grew up until it was time to leave the nest! I was so happy that I was able to help them, it was truly a joy!
