Police misconduct in the U.S. has cost taxpayers tens of billions of dollars since 2000 — and that’s only what’s been officially recorded. Major cities alone pay out hundreds of millions every few years for wrongful arrests, excessive force, and misconduct. The real cost is likely much higher, since many cases are never fully reported. And behind every dollar is a person whose rights were violated.
