Sometimes, no matter the size of the boot my toenails start hurting and they become very sensitive, could this be just a sizing issue or a lacing or lockdown one?

I have a 9cm wide foot, the vapour 16 elites fit perfectly, the phantom 6 and f50 elite are extremely tight in the mid foot. I use custom insoles and that causes tightness with both boots. But I without insole they still fit very very tight
