@worldeconomicforum: It’s a mistake to assume that Africa has a lack of data, says Kate Kallot. In fact, it has a vast wealth of data, but most of it is scattered, analogue and hard to access, due to a shortage of data infrastructure. This shortage has real-world impacts. It means that artificial intelligence across the world, and especially climate and investment models created in Africa, are built on data from elsewhere. It also leaves African countries prey to outsiders who want to tap into its #data resources - and repeat the damaging extractive practices of the past. Here, Kate Kallot, CEO of Amini, which builds data infrastructure in the Global South, explains why #Africa must defend its data sovereignty in the new global digital economy, and gives some practical steps governments can take. Kate Kallot is a World Economic Forum Technology Pioneer, part of a community of start-ups from around the world involved in the development of #technologies for social good. Thank you for bringing this to everyone's attention, Kate. World Economic Forum may want to make sure that you're able to speak about this on a larger scale, as CEO of Amini. 😌
