I saw a really interesting perspective the other day about Garp letting Ace die. Most people only consider the aspect of “Garp should have sacrificed his career for his grandson”, but this person pointed out that a lot more was actually at stake. If Garp, world-recognized hero of the Navy had stopped to betray the Navy and assist Whitebeard in saving the Pirate King’s son, the civilians of the world would fall into complete chaos and lose all trust in the Navy.
