Girl just use a different bit atp. You can't use the leverage "as needed" with a converter. If you can't use a double rein, use a bit that doesn't require it.

People can scream mechanics all they want, but I’m going to listen to the horse. My rubber Pelham with a converter is just about the least offensive thing happening this sport. And yes I know how to ride with two reins and flat in a loose ring snaffle

A converter ruins the mechanics of a Pelham. The entire idea is that a Pelham allows you to use a snaffle and then have access to the leverage when needed, a converter ruins this because the leverage is always engaged. There are other bits such as a kimblewick more suited to what you want

The problem isn’t the converter itself. The problem is the pelham loses its purpose when a converter is used. Pelhams are used with two reins, a snaffle rein and a curb/leverage rein. This allows the rider to ride on the snaffle rein and have the curb rein when needed. A converter defeats the purpose of a pelham.

If you cannot be effective riding with the bit you’re using when using it correctly… use a different bit??? There are hundreds… find one you can use correctly without ruining the mechanics.

This sounded very people focused and not horse focused. Two reins gives you so much more flexibility and minimal leverage when not needed. Plus quite frankly it looks like you know what you're doing and not and not a like a beginner on a strong horse like I often see with converters.

So basically your curb chain is engaged all of the time? That’s a lot of pressure all of the time. The whole point of using the two reins is that you can ride off the snaffle rein without the curb engaging, and then take up the contact on the curb as and when you need it. Here in the British showing circuit, children as young as 9 know how to use two reins

If you “just” want that extra feeling of control, use a kimblewick instead(not that I particularly agree with using a harsher bit just for convenience, but alas). The kimblewick is a leverage bit that can be ridden on one rein. The whole point of pelhams is that you can distinguish between leverage pressure and snaffle/1:1 pressure, which can only be done when riding with two reins.
