question. it still has value, just at a different rate. let's say pure gold is $100 a gram. well, 80% gold is $80 a gram. is it really a huge deal?

Canada figured this out about a decade or more ago. They sold all their gold and bought treasury bill and earn interest on this money.

That's nothing. gold is gold. when you have 90% purity gold you can knock down 10% of it's price and sell it. it's still gold
