Mercedes OM642 - Intake Flap Mechanism Rebuild | Part 6. • This time we’re working on the intake manifold flap mechanism. The OM642 has two intake manifolds connected with the EGR heat exchanger, forming one large intake assembly. • The intake flaps are operated by an electric motor and plastic linkage rods. Over time, these linkages can become loose, develop play or break. • In this case, one mounting point was damaged, so we’re replacing the original plastic parts with upgraded aluminium linkage rods. • The manifolds are also completely cleaned from carbon, soot and oil deposits, while the EGR heat exchanger is cleaned and prepared for assembly. • Everything goes back together with new seals and gaskets.
