On March 16, 2009, actress Natasha Richardson was taking a ski lesson at Mont Tremblant in Quebec when she fell and hit her head on packed snow. She laughed it off and declined medical attention. Back at the hotel, she called her husband, Liam Neeson, who was filming in Toronto. Her tone was playful: “Oh darling, I’ve taken a tumble in the snow.” Nothing about the call sounded alarming. About two hours later, Richardson developed a severe headache and became confused. An ambulance was called. She was taken to a nearby hospital, transferred to a trauma center in Montreal, then airlifted to New York. Two days later, she died from an epidural hematoma, bleeding between the skull and brain. She was 45 years old. Richardson came from one of Britain’s most famous acting families. Her mother was Vanessa Redgrave. She won a Tony Award for “Cabaret” and became widely known to younger audiences as the mother in “The Parent Trap.” She and Neeson had two sons, ages 12 and 13.
