When flying below 10000 feet MSL, the maximum indicated airspeed is 250 knots. It is one of those regulations that seems simple but is easy to overlook if you are not thinking about airspace and altitude together. This rule exists to reduce collision risk in busier, lower altitude environments where traffic density is higher. Slower speeds give pilots more time to see, react, and avoid. Once you start thinking in terms of why the rule exists instead of just memorizing it, it becomes much easier to remember and apply in real world flying.
