@urgentcarealdie: If your child has had dark circles under their eyes for a while and you cannot figure out why, this might be the answer. Allergic shiners are bluish or dark discolorations under the eyes caused by nasal congestion. When the nasal passages are swollen and blocked, blood flow backs up in the small veins under the eyes and shows up as those dark circles. It has nothing to do with how much sleep your child is getting. We see this a lot in kids with seasonal allergies or chronic nasal congestion and it is one of the most commonly missed signs that allergies are not being managed well. What to look for alongside it: 👃 Constant upward nose rubbing 👄 Mouth breathing during the day or at night 💧 Watery or puffy eyes If your child has been dealing with this and symptoms are not improving, come in and let us take a look.
