@dariusryankadem: Many parents believe that if they set or follow through with a consequence, they'll damage the relationship. So they soften it. Or they over-validate the feelings and quietly let the line slip. Either way, the consequence never really lands, because they're afraid connection can't survive it. Connection and consequences aren't doing the same job. Connection teaches your child they're safe and loved. Consequences teach them their actions affect the people and the world around them. Both lessons matter. When the consequence hits and the emotions come, you stay with the emotions not the lesson. When the emotions cool, you defend the line and follow through with the consequence. That's where the learning happens. How reliable the consequence is. If warmth never meets a limit, the child learns escalation works. If a limit never meets warmth, they learn to fear you.  Kindness and follow-through aren't opposites. They’re two essential skills we need as parents so our children can make sense of the world around them and feel safe. If you want to learn how to stay connected, hold boundaries and follow through without feeling uncomfortable about it setting consequences, I'm holding a free masterclass on may 14th at 8pm bst, go to my link in bio to register.

Where are all the "gentle parenting doen't work" people when there is a display of real gentle parenting with clear boundaries... I admire you, keep it up and hopefully she is also going to be a great parent one day.

That's not a consequence that's a punishment... There's not a logic connection between not having apple juice and pushing a table ?? If we follow that logic there would be no difference between a punishment and a consequence..

I’m always with setting expectations and consequences but not to use food as a reward for meeting expectations.

Love your videos, I’ll be a parent come November, so I don’t see the rush to take part in this masterclass but hopefully it’s something you keep doing in the years to come! :)
