Our kids 529 plans are now 15k each at 1 years old. We plan to continue to put 200 each a month into until they are both 18 but we calculated that if we didn’t touch it till then they can retire at 30

Yepp my daughter is 7 and has $23k and my 4 year old has $17k. And my 1 year old has $3k. By the time they are 18 they should have 100k minimum each to put towards education or what they want. I want my kids to get off on the right foot

We save the $2k tax refund we get for our daughter every year as well as some other savings but it’s a good chunk of money that we didn’t get prior so why not save it for her!

My financial advisor said that you can transfer the 529 plan if they don’t use for education into a Roth IRA for them

I started saving 10 years before my child before she was born. She’s gonna be a millionaire by 30.

Don’t contribute anything to your kids’ accounts before maxing out your own.

Can you give insight— I heard advice to have a grandparent open the 529 in the child’s name because then it won’t show on FAFSA. Can anyone confirm that or explain the best way to do it?

529 is NOT going to make your kid a millionaire

So I would be aware that kids get full access to their custodial brokerage without guardrails when they turn 18. You can’t use that money for a wedding or a first house for your child but they can if they choose to. The important part here is your child will get to spend this money however they want to. At 18, kids are years from their pre frontal cortex being fully developed and this makes them impulsive. It would be better for you to put your kids wedding/ house money away in your own brokerage and help them out with those big purchases when the time comes.
