I'm ambitious. 37 years old. 2.5M net worth. trying to get to 5 so I can retire early by 45 at the latest. people think I'm crazy and say they can't imagine me stopping. I stopped running after I ran a marathon. i guarantee you I can find better ways to spend my life than dealing with bs 5 out of 7 days a week.

Retirement doesn’t mean doing nothing, it means doing what you want to do, when you want to do it. You are being forced to work for income just to live.

$5m with an 8% interest you’d be making $400k a year. More than comfortable for a family of 4. Nice house, private school, vacations and regular expenses would be covered with plenty leftover.

I think it’s more about retiring from the corporate daily grind. A lot of people I know that retire early go onto to run their own business of some sort.

why would he assume they are just sitting at home? and wouldn't that apply to any age? all early retirement does is remove the requirement to have to work so you can do other fulfilling things. I can't imagine having my identity and self worth so tied into what I do to earn a living

You don't need a job. find personal projects and activities to do. learn to surf, climb mountains, travel across Europe trying the best wine and food. decide to learn about history or learn economics. Keep busy and live your dream.

I have run 5 marathons probably only doing one more in my lifetime. That is only because I found out there is a lord of the rings one in New Zealand.

So many people said this to me, but I took a year off last year after getting completely burned out in the corporate world and I didn't get bored for a single second.
