@bodycam_networkusa: Man Tries To Steal Patrol Cruiser Before Reaching For Officers Gun During Arrest On 7/8/24 an officer with the Des Moines Police Department was at a gas station when a man was caught inside his patrol vehicle allegedly trying to put it into gear. As the officer confronted the suspect outside the store, the situation quickly escalated after the man allegedly became aggressive, balled his fists, and lunged toward the officer, causing the officer to deploy pepper spray in an attempt to stop him. Moments later, officers attempted to place him in handcuffs when the suspect suddenly began fighting with them on the ground. During the struggle, one officer says he felt repeated hard tugs on his duty weapon and looked down to see the suspect allegedly grabbing the grip of his firearm and attempting to pull it from the holster. He was then transported to the Polk county jail where he was booked and charged with TRESPASS 1ST OFFENSE, INTERFERENCE WITH OFFICIAL ACTS, INTERFERENCE WITH OFFICIAL ACTS CAUSING BODILY INJURY, POSSESSION OF CONTROLLED SUBSTANCE 1ST OFFENSE, ASSAULT ON PERSONS IN CERTAIN OCCUPATIONS, and DISARMING A PEACE OFFICER.
