When a house has dark floors, dark baseboards, dark trim, and stark white walls with nothing in between, the problem is not the stain — it's that nothing was edited. Start by identifying what actually deserves to stay stained. Pretty cabinetry, quality doors — keep those. Then paint everything else. Baseboards, crown, casings, even the doors if the paneling is doing the heavy lifting. You can also paint the trim and casings one color and the doors a different color to create the middle ground the room is missing.
