Pacers did nothing wrong. The 5th pick was worthless to them. It was all guards there and they're deep at the guard position. NBA screwed them as usual. Pacers haven't had a Top 4 pick since 1988.

I love Zubac, but this trade is an absolute fleece. If it was just the 5th it would be one thing, but they also gave up a 2029 1st a 2nd and Matherin and Jackson. Zubac is a great center, but he is also really not a great fit next to Halliburton as he is awful in transition and shines in a slow methodical offense. Plus the Pacers probably could have gotten Zu for just the 5th and some filler if they waited until the off season to trade.

Pacers didn’t screw it up, they got hosed by the rigged lottery. If it was a top 4 pick then they would have kept it and likely been in a solid position to fight for EC championship
