La presidenta en funciones, Delcy Rodríguez, declaró el estado de emergencia y anunció por televisión estatal el cierre del aeropuerto de Caracas, la suspensión de los servicios ferroviarios y la cancelación de las clases. Mientras continúan las labores de rescate, Estados Unidos anunció un despliegue “inmediato equipos de búsqueda y rescate, recursos médicos y asistencia humanitaria”.
