@adytum_official: Standard CBC and CMP panels measure about 20 things and were designed in the mid 20th century to catch acute pathology. They don’t measure complement activation, cytokine networks, or the proteomic signatures of chronic immune dysregulation. The technology to measure thousands of proteins at once only became commercially viable around 2019, which is why paradigm-shifting research like this is happening now and not decades ago. A 2024 study by Cervia-Hasler et al. in Science used SomaScan proteomics on 113 long COVID patients and 39 controls. They identified persistent complement dysregulation including C7 complexes and terminal complement, plus markers of red blood cell injury and platelet activation. Almost none of these show up on routine bloodwork. A 2025 Nature Immunology study by Gao et al. replicated this in independent Swedish and UK cohorts and found multiple distinct biomarker signatures mapping to different long COVID symptom clusters. This kind of unbiased proteomic testing is not yet standard clinical care, and the assays used are not commercially available to the average patient. The findings need further replication and standardization before changing how chronic illness is diagnosed. The research does not say standard labs are useless. They are still essential for catching acute pathology. The point is they were never designed to catch chronic immune dysregulation. I’m not a doctor, just sharing research I find interesting. So do you recommend us doing any of these tests? Would the results help in any way?
