😱 THIS IS CRAZY 😱 More Information 👇 The stock market is at record highs today and the reason is the biggest Iran development since the war began in February. Axios, citing two US officials and a regional source, has reported that American and Iranian negotiators have agreed on a 60 day memorandum of understanding to extend the ceasefire and begin formal negotiations on Iran’s nuclear program. The moment that report landed stocks hit their session highs. The S&P 500 is up 0.5% and the Nasdaq is up 0.6%, both hitting fresh all time records. This is the closest thing to a genuine resolution we have seen since the war started. A 60 day ceasefire gives both sides time to negotiate a permanent deal and if that deal gets done the Strait of Hormuz reopens, oil falls back toward $70 or below, inflation drops sharply, the Federal Reserve cuts rates, and every index fund and ISA in the world benefits massively. Markets are beginning to price in exactly that scenario today. However there is a warning sign buried in today’s data that is worth paying attention to. The Federal Reserve’s favourite inflation measure, the core PCE price index, came in at 3.3% year over year today. That is still well above the Fed’s 2% target. On top of that the US economy only grew at 1.6% annualised in the first quarter, which was revised down from earlier estimates. Slow growth and sticky inflation at the same time is one of the most difficult economic environments for a central bank to navigate. The Fed cannot cut rates to stimulate growth without risking making inflation worse. And it cannot raise rates to fight inflation without risking tipping the economy into recession. This is the tightrope Kevin Warsh is walking as the new Fed Chair and markets are watching very closely. Today the Iran ceasefire news is drowning out the inflation data but the underlying problem has not gone away. The bigger picture though is extraordinary. The S&P 500 is now above 7,500. The Nasdaq is above 26,600. The Dow hit a new record yesterday at 50,644. If you hold VWRP, VUAG or any broad market index fund your portfolio is at or near its all time high right now. The bull market that everyone said would end because of Iran, inflation, and rising bond yields has kept climbing anyway. That is the power of staying invested and not panic selling when things look scary. The people who sold in February when the war started have missed one of the best bull runs in recent memory. The people who stayed invested and kept buying the dips are sitting on significant gains today. 60 day ceasefire agreed, records broken, inflation still a problem but markets looking through it. Follow for daily market breakdowns every weekday so you always know what is happening and why.#stockmarket #investing #stocks #finance #sp500
