@wadzizoe: Luxury brands are quietly repackaging Furoshiki the traditional Japanese art of wrapping goods in cloth into “quiet luxury” handbags. Loro Piana’s foulard handle costs nearly £300… while traditional handmade Furoshiki handles from Japanese craftsmen can cost closer to £15–30. So what are we really paying for: craftsmanship, styling or luxury storytelling? VC: @johnathan guo #furoshiki #loropiana #hermes
thank God I'm seeing this bc I added the loro piana handle to my wishlist 🥹

Ehh I’m Japanese and this feels like a stretch. Furoshiki isn’t inherently a shoulder bag, it could literally be to hold anything tightly. For example there’s a specific way to wrap bottles. Turning it into a shoulder bag isn’t a traditional approach and adapted to modern fashion.

furoshiki being Japanese, cashmere being south/central Asian, leather craft perhaps from Kenya… all sold by a European “high luxury fashion house”at astronomical prices… I think that’s enough said 😭😭

this is a scarf with a handle not a furoshiki. also it’s japanese. fu-ro-shi-ki (foo-roe-she-key) it’s pronounced exactly like it’s spelled.

thanks for featuring my vid briefly ! i think scarf bags aren’t anything new while furoshiki is more so associated with actual gift wrapping. to me, hermès’ decision to call theirs a “furoshiki” bag comes from the practice of repurposing square textiles that may have come from scarves into something else (in japan, for wrapping gifts!)

Craft girlies this would be so easy. 2 d rings a leather tooling kit and check your local craft consignment there’s barrels of leather scraps.

LUSH actually does their gift wrapping in scarves using Japanese techniques and credits them. The only thing being paid for is the scarf

I have original japanese straps and I use them with my hermes scarfs - it is a perfect blend between style and understated class
