I mean, I get the idea of the story… but in one of the examples the man is one disaster away from financial devastation… and the other one the man still able to do what he loves doing, but he’s financially secure and has probably created generational wealth for his children and grandchildren… so it’s not exactly the same…. But the moral of the story rings true, which is to focus on the important things in life.

Nice analogy but misses the mark of that most people don’t find any enjoyment, satisfaction or fulfilment from there job. So why would they want to do it forever if there’s another viable option

If everyone only fished for what they needed, everyone would have fish. Capitalism has ruined us. Now everyone fishes for a much fish as they possibly can, which means there are those that will have surplus and those that dont have enough

i disagree with this because while he is happy doing what he is doing he could support his family a lot more with millions

I’ve seen many comments talking about the security in the wealthy man’s retirement but what is missed by this perspective is that there is far greater risk in the venture of the wealthy man than the fisherman’s current job. For the sake of conversation it’s fair to say that there will always be more fish in the sea.

people still arguing about this dont understand life. As a person from a latin american family who moved to NYC and had a version of this (not as extreme lol) but enough for giant houses and fancy cars and all that. We lost our culture and heart, and ability for ancient crafts, in exchange for something that made us sterile in a sense. I was a child seeing all this and have done the opposite with very little I have now traveled the world, get to live in europe for years now something ive wanted, and im an artist working when I want, most my life is relaxation by the sea. I wouldnt want what my parent aimed for im so blessed..

most people on the comments don't understand the real meaning of storie. The first time I heard this story it was from Alan Wats. Unless you can break your self from the programming you have being programmed to play out. A whole new word opens up to you if you do.

the inherent issue with the businessman's advice is that if everyone took it, it would be useless. we cannot all be multi-millionaire business owners. the millionaire needs the everyday worker to have a million dollar company.

makes sense for a story from the 60's as your income could sort you and your family and even a secret family if you wanted 😂😂now it feels like without millions a good life may not he enjoyed

As Muslims we have an Idea of Rizq could be translated to wealth or blessings or a mixture of both. Your money, your children, your health, your time is all Rizq from God and we all get what is willed for us by God but it’s hard to quantify what is a priority from the perspective of a rich old man it’s time and health and from the perspective of poor young father it’s money and ensuring the future of his children. It’s Human nature to value what you don’t have and only a few who are truly content with what they have whatever it maybe are truly happy. Acceptance of God’s will and destiny is one of the pillars of faith in islam.
