I agree with you in principle, but this is why elections matter. Winning does not just mean controlling office for a term. It means gaining the power to shape institutions and create advantages that make your agenda more durable. That may feel unfair, but some amount of durability is a feature of the system, not a bug. Stability is one of the main benefits. Our system is designed to change slowly, not lurch violently every time public opinion shifts. That friction gives voters, courts, states, and future elections time to stop bad decisions before they pass a point of no return. The party in power gets to govern, but it does not get unlimited power forever. If it overreaches, coalitions shift and voters can eventually reverse course. Madison’s argument in Federalist 51 was basically that ambition should be made to counteract ambition, meaning power should be checked by other power rather than trusted to pure virtue. In plain English, the system was built around the assumption that people in power will try to keep power, so the answer is not to pretend otherwise. The answer is to make sure other institutions, other factions, and ultimately voters can push back. The important limit is that it only lasts as long as voters continue to tolerate it. Gerrymandering can make political control more durable, but it does not make it permanent. States and districts have shifted from blue to red and back again over time because voter coalitions change, turnout changes, candidates change, and public opinion eventually catches up with parties that overreach.

The GOP is late to the party. If they gerrymander to the same extent as the DNC, the House would be +120 red team.

Gerrymandering is wrong no matter who does it. Idk the most fair way to split these jurisdictions, but someone smarter than me needs to figure it out and regulate it.

I think the founding fathers did a really good job. However, one of their failings was their apparent prediction that the principles that guided them to make most of the decisions that governed the writing of the Constitution and the founding of this country overall, what indoor. Those principles are clearly a thing of the past.

Or they don’t happen because it hurts midterms if the other side gets a victory forgetting about the country needing victories or because it hurts their presidential candidate. They need to try to help the country until Election Day

honestly I think the best way around this would be abolish the district system entirely and have the top # of representatives (based of the number of representative seats the state has) earn the spot, that way both rural democrats and urban Republicans can at least get a fair vote

The two main issues that have come up with our form of government are the federal judiciary has no real checks and balances and letting congress set their own rules, salaries, and benefits because they will never vote against themselves even if it is better for the country.

I completely agree that most citizens think gerrymandering is bad but they’re getting caught up in “your side did it first” and “your side did it more” when they’re failing to realize that it’s a shitty procedure in the first place? And also they have no idea that dems proposed a bill to end gerrymandering and republicans shot it down. And how the republican Supreme Court just made it infinitely easier to gerrymander. Yes it’s bad on both sides and I think gerrymandering should be abolished but one side is obviously worse in this scenario

You shouldn't be able to split a county at a minimum, There is no reason people in 1 county should have 3 different congressional representatives.
