Idk as a person whos deeply connected to her inner child and is mother, I wholeheartedly disagree with this take. Children are not younger versions of adults, adults are older versions of children. I think if we understood that we would have more patience and respect for children and the world would be forever changed for the better.

THIS. There is constant grief of the little one they were/the age & stage they were. Especially with an only child. There is joy in their growth, and also grief. ❤️

Perpetually mourning the younger version, and celebrating who they become and unfold into. It’s such an emotionally raw experience being a parent

Hi Youngmi, the last two sections of your book really touched me the most. I don’t think I’ll have children because I think while I an so incredibly afraid of death, I am ultimately more scared of ever losing a child. Also, I finished your book while on a stationary bike in a community college in Redwood City lmao. 💛

One thing that gives me solace is thinking about it from a 4th dimensional perspective. There’s a great video that it explains it through apple slices.

This might be dark but a weird tangent and silver lining: when I was a teenager with suicidal ideation my dad told me that I didn’t need to kill myself, because this version of myself would die naturally with time, and to just hold out for my future iterations and that eventually I’d barely even remember this awful one. He said it was really hard to explain this from someone older to someone younger but to please trust him. He was right. Always changing is a curse and a blessing
