@godsworkcollective: The 21 Christian Coptic Martyrs were a group of Christian men who were kidnapped and killed by ISIS in Libya in 2015 because of their faith in Jesus Christ. Most of them were Egyptian Coptic Orthodox Christians who had traveled to Libya for work so they could provide for their families. They were ordinary laborers, not soldiers, politicians, or public figures. Among them was one Ghanaian Christian, Matthew Ayariga, who chose to remain with the others and share in their confession of Christ. Their martyrdom became known around the world because they refused to deny Jesus, even when facing death. In Christian tradition, they are remembered not only as victims, but as witnesses. The word “martyr” means witness.
