Idling = the engine is running. Drive = the engine is running. So what's the difference?

That’s not a modern engine modern engines oil pressure is almost instantaneous. As soon as the car turns on that oil is pumping all the way to the top buddy you have no idea what you’re talking about.

Why havent we added a pre start function to most cars that start the oil pump before engaging the starter kinda like how you have to wait for glow plugs on diesels

Even if you immediately drive off it doesn’t change the fact the engine is running, makes zero difference

My rule of thumb is it’s good to drive when the RPMs drop below 1000 rpm.

This is a new engine or an engine currently being rebuilt so it doesn’t have any oil in the system, an engine that has run will still have oil in oil galleries, letting an engine run lets oil reach a prompter temp so the oil is less thick. Overall it is good to let your car run for a bit before driving, on the other hand it’s fine if you don’t I would just get your oil changed sooner between 3-5k miles.

isn't the engine in the video running at something like 10RPM?, meaning that normally, running 1000RPM the oil would arrive sooner?

So you are telling us that the oil drains freely in the sump and somehow all the parts that require pressurised oil film become dry if the engine is not running. Hard to believe

Let’s not even worry about that, most people in the comments don’t do regular oil changes

Over 2010 you can drive after 2 sec, literally the oil pressure lamp will go off.

engineering is amazing, if pistons are already moving this fast at low rpms how do they look like at 6500rpm🔥💀

Every single manufacturer of vehicles that are not carbureted say that 30-60 seconds of idle is all you need before you start driving. That’s it.

People say it doesn’t matter! I have cars with 250k miles still running smooth🙂 If you are in a rush, go ahead by all means, but turning your car on and waiting 3min won’t ruin your life! MAKE IT A HABIT

absolute nonsense. 1. there's oil residue from the last time it ran. 2. driving and idling, the engine is still running.

Except anything made within the last half a century has oil filters or housings with one-way valves that don't let the oil drip back to the pan. Within 2 seconds you have oil everywhere. Obviously it's still a bad idea to rev it immediately, but not because of the LACK of oil.
