When I trained in the Army in Panama howler monkeys sounded terrifying in a triple canopy jungle. That’s just one. Imagine 10-20 of them in a dark jungle .

A lot of people fail to realize that howler monkeys are EXTREMELY lazy. Sometimes spending entire days moving from tree to tree literally just to eat and rest. They’re docile and usually non-violent but they are very loud and have a very deep roar because they don’t like confrontation, it’s just a scare tactic.
