I bought a Kobo Clara just last month to replace my 15yr old kindle bc of this! If Amazon isn’t going to support perfectly working older ereaders, then I doubt the new kindles are going to be built to last as long….

Some of the people in these comments just don't get it, and never will. They've been tricked into thinking this is normal. Electronics used to regularly last many decades. When my grandparents passed literally everything they had was from the 50s and 60s and still worked, including their cabinet TV. You can argue about quality but the point is this is planned obsolescence.

If Amazon did a trade in it would have changed the whole narrative. Send us your old kindle that’s still in working condition and you’ll get a new paper white. But they’ve screwed the pooch.

I hate the “no company supports old tech for that long” argument. A Kindle is nowhere NEAR as complex as a phone. They display book text. That’s it. Basically a glorified PDF reader. (I know ebooks aren’t PDF files, but you know what I mean.) My Kindle is only a year old, so I’m fine, but I’m still so mad for all of you with old ones. 😭

My moms from 2009 still is mint condition. She uses it every day. She’s so mad and frustrated that she has to upgrade when it’s on amazon. She has 3 grandkids younger than that kindle.

Just get a new kindle. It is sad because I wish I still had the kindle I had in 2010. But 17 years is a very long time to have any kind of tech. Kindles do last a long time! I recommend the paper white.
