@by.erikahernandez: My son has been gone for almost three years now, and in that time, I’ve watched my bonus son Kevin grow from a teenager into a young man. If you know Kevin, you know he’s the pot stirrer among his bonus brothers, but with me, he’s my sweet boy. On our drive home from dinner, we were talking about how Mother’s Day actually started as a way to honor mothers who were no longer here. Kevin lost his mom at a young age, so he understands that kind of loss. In the middle of the conversation, he looked at me and said, “You will always be my Ma.” Knowing he’s stepping up to do the things my son would have done for me is a kind of love I can’t even describe.
