i see so many stories, reddit and outside of it, of people saying "i thought you would change your mind about kids". kids is arguably one of the biggest things you should agree on before getting married. you should never ever expect someone to just "change their mind"

Divorce can be a boundary, but never an ultimatum. “I won’t stay in a relationship where we cannot agree on the matter of kids” is fine, “Have kids with me or I’m leaving you” is not

This is my biggest fear as someone who doesn’t want kids, getting married to someone I think loves and agrees with me only to find out they just didn’t respect me enough to listen to my opinion and just assumed I’d change it.

No matter if discussed before or not, opinions change especially big ones like having kids, if your partner wants kids and you don’t then you should divorce. Yes it’s sad but there’s nothing more to it, just split.

my dad didnt want kids but for my mum he had me and my sister. This made our childhood pretty tumultuous. I asked him again recently when he was saying people should have children why he was being a hypocrite because he didn’t want children and he ended up saying because it was the biggest mistake. This didn’t stop my childhood being very confusing when I met my boyfriend, I made sure straight off the bat, even if we want to stay together forever that I want children and I was only gonna stick around if he did too. I don’t want that life for my kids. bonus my bf did want kids and we been together 3 years and planning our life together :)

This is why before you marry someone you have to be honest about this kind of stuff. Be honest if you think you want kids if you know you don’t want kids and nothing will change your mind or vice versa because this is always a point that will end our relationship and it’s better to do it before marriage then after.
