@coachmontessori: In Montessori we don’t say “Stop throwing sand” 🚫 Because saying stop doesn’t teach them anything. It just stops the moment. So we give them the limit; clearly. “Sand stays down here” And if they do it again; “Throwing sand is not allowed. If you do it again; we’ll leave the sand area.” And if they do it again ; you leave. No third chances. No negotiations. No warnings. That’s not being mean. That’s being consistent. 💛 And consistency is the kindest thing you can do for a child. Save this for your next trip to the park 👆🏼 Tell me; has this ever happened to you? 👇🏼 #CoachMontessori #MontessoriParenting #ToddlerBehavior #disciplinekidswithlove #creatorsearchinsights
Except real boundaries exist in life. The word “no” and “stop” are so incredibly important to be able to use and hear.

Hey guys the point of this wording is to actively tell the children what you want them to do instead of just telling them what you don’t want them to do. Children are not adults and they need help understanding what is acceptable behavior vs unacceptable

This is exactly how I patented and now that they’re grown, I can attest it raises good and thoughtful humans. It’s ok to take time to explain things to children, it is literally our job.

Y’all don’t understand the reason why has to do with the language being used. It’s less of a command and more of a boundary based on the reason, children don’t mind accepting a redirection from an adult, but there needs to be a reason. Just like adults often need to have a reason.

this is based on toddler language skills! toddlers remember the last 2-3 words of each sentence the best and most clearly - stop throwing sand can sound like “throwing sand!😛” also, saying stop without providing an alternative for the impulse sets them up for failure

If I say “don’t think about an elephant! Don’t think about it! No elephants! 🐘 stop with the elephants!” You’re going to think about elephants. But if I say “it’s time to think about basketball 🏀 here is a ball! 🏀” elephants won’t be on your mind. THATS why you use verbiage of what they should do, rather than what they shouldn’t

Fun fact. Maria Montessori didn't raise her own child, they reunited when he was already 14yo.
