Over decades of underground work, imprisonment, and periods of intense ideological struggle due to disorientation that had weakened the movement, they became prominent organizers and political leaders. They were appointed as as peace consultants for the peace talks between the government and the revolutionary movement, a status tied to earlier agreements like JASIG (Joint Agreement on Safety and Immunity Guarantees), which was intended to provide protection for negotiators and consultants involved in peace talks. In August 2022, the Tiamzons and eight other revolutionaries were arrested alive and unarmed in Catbalogan, Samar. They were subsequently subjected to torture and extrajudicial killing. Their bodies were allegedly placed on a motorboat packed with explosives and detonated offshore, a clear attempt to simulate a naval firefight to destroy any evidence of custody and execution. The AFP boldly lied to the families of the victims and the media, claiming that this was a nighttime "encounter," and that the Tiamzons were traveling by boat with suspected NPA at the time of their deaths. The Philippine revolution continues growing in strength and support, in the cities and in the countryside, and all over the world, despite the number of leaders murdered in the past decade. As long as imperialism, semi-feudalism, and bureaucrat capitalism persists in the Philippines, the broad masses of workers and peasants will remain oppressed and exploited.
