The oldest kid I babysat with friends: "How come only you're caring for us? They're just on their phones." That kid changed a lot in my view. I immediately know that kid was too mature when I'd met her. She was only in 3rd grade and I could see in the way she spoke and acted. She didn't just act questions out of curiosity like healthy kids do. She only asked deep questions. We discussed adhd. I even noticed her trying to fix me when she asked me about my family life. She wanted me to vent to her. Her. A third grader. A child. A child trying to comfort an adult. It was clearly practiced. Without proof, I can easily say she's comforted an adult countless times. I got the guardians' number, in hopes that she's contact me to help babysit again. She never did. I miss those kids. The toddler would quote how bad teachers were, during play. With clear anger. The second youngest barely said a word. One of them I never even saw because they stayed upstairs the whole time. I miss those kids. I miss them dearly.

I adore the color choice as well. It’s so cold, and it feels like she’s clinging to the warmth of the affection it takes to buy presents for her. The empty space above the couch really sells the lonely tone.

my sister called me spoiled as a kid because i was given so many gifts. i got the same amount she did at her age. it was never favoritism. it was their “apology” to me. half the time they’d scream at me for asking for something, and i’d tell them it’s okay if i can’t have it, and they’d just yell, asking if that’s what i really want, and they wouldn’t take no for an answer. at the end of each gift, i felt nothing but guilt and isolation. i was a waste of money. a waste of time and effort. i was never worth any of it. that’s how it felt anyways.
