In an alternate universe Britney’s new single is, “Don’t Let Go of Me”, where she returns to familiar location with her army to set a few things right. As much as I love the Circus album, I’ve always found the video to be a difficult watch. Released only a year after Blackout, Circus felt like a rushed sort of sanitized damage control after the wild, experimental brilliance of Blackout. Of course it marked the beginning of the conservatorship, and watching Britney, with sadness in her eyes, performing beside captive circus animals always felt impossible to separate from the context. This video imagines a different ending, and I hoped that revisiting and rewriting this chapter would feel cathartic. Both this song and video were outside of my comfort zone - I tried to push toward something much more grounded, natural, and realistic than my usual style to switch it up a bit - hope you guys enjoy it 🫶🥰 #britneyspears
