It’s not necessarily price fixing as we understand it in the United States however, that way of doing it is very illegal in Japan. Like it’s even considered illegal to discuss it in Japan.

Pepsi and coke do this for Walmart. They sell to them for way less than any other company. What happened is Walmart told them to either do this or they don't get their items in their stores. Walmart at the time was the biggest retailer in the USA, so they agreed. Now I feel like Amazon is the biggest retailer. I can get anything from them and it's at the same price or better than other retailers. So not illegal, but up to the manufacturer to decide if it's worth it.
