Invented tradition. “Shinto” was literally invented by the Japanese Meiji regime in the late 1860s using folk Buddhist traditions. And the whole architecture mimics the Anglican Church. Don’t believe it? Just look up when e. g. the Shinto marriage ceremony was created. Ancient Japan was Buddhist & Confucian. 🤔
