It's a really thats messing up. Dealership was gonna charge me $1500 to fix it with the probability of it happening again being high. I fixed it with 45 minutes of my time and a $0.03 paperclip. Hasn't happened in over 2 years now.

please dont slam the shifter if your car does this all you will do is break something else its all linked to a shift cable the problem is at your neutral safety switch the contacts could be going bad or just needs to be adjusted

Either a bad neutral safety switch or needs to clean out the shifter from binding from debris

Sometimes it goes into protection mode. When you put the key fob next to the start button it will start. You see when you did that it started.

Without doing a proper check of the car .I would first take a look at his shift gear linkage going to the transmission , and connecting sensors related to that . It could be out of alignment
