@tedtoks: The best play environments offer freedom and novelty that kids can explore as much or as little as they like. But traditional playgrounds don’t offer much flexibility — swings, slides, and climbing frames are hardly novel structures. So, how do we create better play spaces? In this TED-Ed animation, we explore the cognitive benefits of risky play and how we can design playgrounds that promote fun, agency, and development. Visit the 🔗 in our ☣️ to learn how play can lead to brighter minds, braver ideas, and a more imaginative future. #TEDEd #TEDTalk

I think we strayed to far as we tried to protect kids, now they live in aesthetic bland boxes and we are killing creativity and adventure in the next generation

I remember my grandmother used to have a little wooden structure in the roof of the house. It had a lot of junk and construction material. Me and my cousins spent hours playing there. It was amazing. It could be a cabin in the woods. An old store at the side of the rode. A spy’s safe house. There was a black cat that started visiting, so we would leave food for him, and play with him. When they decided to expand the house and build a new floor, it was the saddest day.

tragically where I live good playgrounds are being taken out and replaced with nylon rope structures that are not only shedding microplastics quickly are not going to hold up long, usually fraying immediately, and toxic ground cover made of tires.

I grew up in a very rural area with lots of abandoned homes and my friends and I would always go play games there. It’s the most memorable times of my life.

I wonder how many of my generation, including me, are socially maladapted because we weren't allowed freedom to play

Curiosity killed the Jinn :
I used to be the kid that would find the most hidden and interesting places and would get excited to come back and tell the other kids what I found. I still think I am like that, even in Uni I would find a better and simpler way to get the assignments done and would be excited to help the other in my class! And now I’m experimenting with A.I and making money from it…I’ve already show a few of my friends and family 🤷♂️
