My dad, Hungarian, did this dish for us, one of the few he didn’t add garlic to, and we used a whole chicken or thighs and breasts, super easy 2-2-2 tablespoons of Hungarian paprika, butter, onions. Some Hungarian friends add sliced bell peppers. Dad was a “simple”’peasant food purist. The flour only gets added if sauce is too thin, we used a lot of sour cream. You did the dish well. And he called it”chicken paprikash”

A chopped onion, a chopped bell pepper, pound of chicken thighs, 2 cups broth, 2T of paprika. Toss in a pot and cook for an hour. Add heavy cream (with 2T flour) slowly to mixture. I’ve used Greek yogurt with good results. Enjoy over egg noodles or spaetzle

My dad was Hungarian and my mom was German and when she made it she also put carrots and bell pepper and sometimes mushrooms. We always had it with rice, sometimes with nokedli.
