@bonemuseum: The femur is the longest and strongest bone in the human body, but it’s covered in anatomical markings that reveal how we move. From the greater trochanter to the linea aspera, every ridge, groove, and surface tells the story of muscle attachment, weight bearing, and human motion. In this video, we break down the anatomy of the femur and the landmarks that make it function.#EduTok #TikTokLearningCampaign #LearnOnTikTok

This is real interesting!! I'm no longer a bio student, but I have learned that sometimes if excess trauma or pressure is put on the femur or the pelvis, a deformity can form, extra bone growth that protrudes and grinds against the rim (or the acetabulum in the joint for smarter people than me), causing sharp pains or aches in the hip when laying down, sitting, walking, or standing for long periods. It can happen either on the femoral neck connecting to the head, which is a cam deformity, or in the rim of the socket itself (a pincer deformity grinding against the femur), or both at once! A lot of the time, people don't realise they have it, but others, like me, may need physiotherapy or exercises to strengthen the muscles around the joint and prevent more grinding and labral tears, the primary cause of pain. In extreme cases, some may need invasive surgery to remove the growth if physio doesn't work, but in most cases, people can live a normal life with this. Always interesting to know about the bones in your body!!
