@ajsaxsma: Here is one question you can start asking right now that’s going to make your dialogue stronger. #writingdialogue #characterdialogue #howtowritedialogue #dialogue #writingtips
Im writing a fan fiction and I'm doing it for fun, but I can't remove the doubt abt my own work whether I did it right or wrong, or whether the readers actually liked my work or not, and it's frustrating to be proud but ashamed of your own work at the same time.
I've been quietly watching your videos, and can I just say that you've been really helpful, thank you. hopefully I can write better like you soon :)

I like “I’ll be fine.” instead of “I’m fine.”, it says so much in so little

I write for fun but whenever I’m writing an argument I always ask “What do they feel?” Then “How can they hide it?” And lastly “How can I show it without explaining a thing?” Took time but I learned to trust that my readers are capable of putting two and two together and over explaining weakens the tension instead of igniting it😅

I rage bait myself with how many times I've made my character refuse just to say the truth😭

This helped me so much. I was writing a breakup scene and it wasn’t working out and now I have this: “so..what? You’re breaking up with me because of her? Can you blame me?” And my character just left the room that was it and it made the moment feel so much more powerful bc that character doesn’t like heavy conversations or drama

I have a character who tends to answer questions like that with a counter-question to divert attention away from himself. Because he’d rather die than openly express his feelings. And when he does answer, his response raises more questions than it actually answers. It’s like a defense mechanism.

God, I’m so glad to hear people talking about this. I’m writing an FMC that is cold and blunt and I’m always worried that people will be annoyed at how often she simply doesn’t answer someone (with words). But she shouldn’t have to for the reader to understand her answer! It would be out of character for her to explain!

I tend to roleplay the dialogue. Makes it easier to identify problems, and also tone.

How can I make my characters' emotions truly reach the reader?
I am trying to improve my writing, and while I feel it’s good, I’m not entirely confident. I stopped writing for 7 years, and coming back has been quite challenging
