@drwendy_physicaltherapy: Why don’t more doctors know about the musculoskeletal syndrome of menopause? Because medicine is siloed. Your OB/GYN treats hormones. Your orthopedist treats joints. Your rheumatologist treats inflammation. Your PCP treats “aging.” Meanwhile no one is connecting the dots. Women are walking around with frozen shoulder, tendon pain, joint stiffness, loss of muscle, loss of bone density, plantar fasciitis, tennis elbow and “mystery pain” during perimenopause and menopause being told:“welcome to aging.” But estrogen receptors exist in muscle, tendon, ligament, cartilage and bone. This is not just about hot flashes. The term “musculoskeletal syndrome of menopause” was only formally introduced in 2024, which means many clinicians were never taught to think about menopause through a musculoskeletal lens. Women’s musculoskeletal health has been under-researched and under-discussed for decades. The good news is the conversation is finally changing. PMID: 39077777 #menopause #jointpain

So, if we have those symptoms, what's the answer? How do we treat it?

the other thing is, HRT is not a cure all. Im.58, been on HRT 3 yrs. It has helped but I still tendon issues, lower back stiffness. Working out is the best remedy but working full time I am just exhausted. Cant wait to retire so I can focus on my health more!

Why don’t they know anything about perimenopause? I went to 8 specialists in my 30s for various things. I was “too young” but post menopausal by 47/48 🤬

I really had no clue menopause was going to hit like this, NOBODY talks about it. My sister and I are 18 years apart which means she went thru menopause WAY before me and she never NOT once brought it up.

Monday I went to the menopausal hormone specialist in Rhode Island to check my blood work and I walked in with frozen shoulder. She said she didn’t know what that was. I went home the next day I called. I was in so much pain. I asked for prednisone over the phone and she said she doesn’t feel qualified to treat frozen shoulder. I just find that to be incredible since it’s directly linked to hormones.

I'm aware, but even with the "knowing", we have no information on what we should do about it, what hormones, doses, etc. Even the healthcare professionals who offer HRT seem unsure about which hormones are necessary.

So we sit in pain. Hearing /learning about it, I’m living it and not getting help to ease this pain. What are we to do to get help?
