Just as a reminder, LA is berely 120 ish years old, while New York was already an established city in the 1700s. It's going to grow even more

It’s the physical size that always gets me. I’m landing on a plane right now and it will take us 30 minutes going 500 mph to get from one end to the other.

This region has the biggest potential for a total transit redevelopment. Because each city is self sustaining, they can easily start a regional train system that would rival that of Tokyos for example.

The TRUE population of “L.A.” is 18.3 million (The Greater Los Angeles Area) and is one of the world’s mega cities. Most people don’t realize how massive the urban sprawl truly is! When flying in from NYC you literally fly for 20 min over the city!

You’re just describing a metropolitan area, very little of this is unique to LA. To take your main comparison, Greater New York may be more centralized, but it also contains other CBDs and skylines than Manhattan: Jersey City, Long Island City, Downtown Brooklyn, Newark, White Plains, etc (even Stamford, CT could be included) not to mention plenty of historic city centers that have been absorbed into the urban agglomeration. Is the San Francisco Bay Area any different than what you’re describing either? You have SF, Oakland, San Jose, and dozens of smaller municipalities with CBDs and urban centers.

really interesting! I hiked the Griffith Trail a while ago and as you said, you can absolutely see the different city cores in the valley from up there. I always wondered why that was, but now I know because of you. thank you for explaining! 🙏

Take note that some of the cities mentioned in this video are in different counties. Cities in OC are NOT considered Los Angeles. They are OC cities, and it's an unspoken rule that LA County and OC are rivals. You have to live here to get it!
