I think the pwi effect in college kinda makes em embrace their blackness even though they are surrounded by white ppl

I wish I went to a HBCU instead of a PWI

and i saw a lot of black ppl saying that a trend in the pwi effect is black people being more comfortable in their natural hair and braids while the hbcu effect is black people being more comfortable weaves and that couldn’t be any more WRONG 😭😭 i genuinely am so tired of pwi black people writing false synopsis of hbcus when they’ve never been to one. the whole “i didn’t go to an hbcu because id get bullied for not being glammed 24/7” is so wrong and genuinely harmful to hbcus and how young black kids will view it. black people at hbcus are not dressed up everyday and we do wear our natural hair !! i think it’s a form of low self-esteem and fear of not be accepted by other black people

but that’s exactly why a pwi is not such a bad option as yall make it you get the best of both worlds….. as someone who attends a pwi aka hbUC🐾 there is way to many organizations for you to not me around a black crowd so either way your still embracing your culture with other blacks around you supporting

The whole pwi vs hbcu conversation as a whole is so counterproductive and honestly just feels like a way for us to be more divided 😭

Same experience. Going from a pwi to a hbcu was life changing.

I literally feel this bc I wanna move back to my hometown bc my mom moved me to a pwi and I felt so isolated and I got invited to a math comp and I was the only blk girl in my school that got to go out of 5 blk kids including me

Kinda off topic but I’ve only been around other black people all my life and pbi but I want to go to umich but I’m kinda scared to go because I’ve never been in an area like that so should I plan to go to that school?

For me is that at my PWI they have D9 organizations in like there’s a Black side of the campus and basically a mini HBCU so you’re embracing your blackness with black support than just being constantly around white people
