To clear up any confusion, this video is about Ilia’s Slavic appearance, which he gets from his Russian parents. Ethnically, he is Russian, but since he was born in the USA, he is also American. He is Russian-American, and being one does not make him any less of the other.

Your nationality does matter, though, in a lot of situations. To be fair, though, very few Americans can claim to be ethnically American. We all come from somewhere else. He is a first gen American with Russian heritage. He was born and raised in the US. His family is part of a very big portion of the population of the Northern VA area (where I live) who are immigrants with American born/first gen children. My family can claim some Slavic heritage through my mom’s family. That said, our family isn’t recent immigrants. But Ilia being born here does make him American - like, he can’t claim Russian citizenship
