@reshgala__: You DON'T need to clear out your entire spring garden to make space for summer plants. Instead, here's how to transition your garden from spring to summer: 1. HARVEST quick maturing veggies like lettuce, radishes, bok choy, spinach, dill, cilantro, parsley and arugula, and replace them with bush beans (direct sow), basil, Swiss chard, peppers, eggplant, tomatoes, zinnias and cosmos. 2. PLANT crops like cherry tomatoes NEXT TO existing spring veg like peas. Once peas are done producing, the cherry tomato plant can continue to grow on the trellis. I avoid cucumbers on the same trellis as peas as the tendrils can strangle the pea plants. 3. DELAY PLANTING of zucchini, butternut squash and pumpkins to early/ mid summer by planting them after broccoli, cauliflower and cabbages have been harvested. Zucchini grows super fast in just 55-65 days, making it an ideal crop for mid-summer planting. And always add a handful of compost, earthworm castings or organic fertilizer to your soil prior to transitioning from one seasons to the next. Hope you found this post helpful.
